Paolo Bea Rosso de Veo 2015
Dense and brooding yet surprisingly composed for a 2015 Sagrantino. Crushed black cherry, balsamic spice, stone dust and wild dark florals crowd the nose with serious intent. On the palate, ripe blue and red fruit carries a spicy-citrus edge, undercut by saline minerality and a surge of violet that coats the whole frame. The tannins are grippy and structural, the acidity bright enough to keep everything honest, and the finish stains long, leaving behind concentrated fruit and that characteristic Sagrantino grip. What's striking is how much pleasure this delivers despite its architecture. Drink now through 2035.
