Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinotage Ashbourne 2015

The 2015 marks the first Ashbourne Pinotage released without a blending component, 40% aged in 400-liter first-fill barrels alongside foudres to keep the wood in check. Dark cherry, blackcurrant, fresh mint and a lift of sage on the nose, opening up steadily with air. Medium-bodied, with sappy red-fruit character, a fine thread of acidity and gentle tannin grip. White pepper and fennel emerge toward the finish, adding a cool, herbal dimension that lingers. Excellent.
