F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Unendlich 2015
An unusual vintage for this bottling, Loibenberg fruit destined for Unendlich shriveled into BA and TBA material, leaving Kellerberg and Höhereck to carry the wine, in even smaller quantities than usual. White peach, iris and honeyed blossom dominate the nose with striking intensity. On the palate, the concentration is deep and seamless: peach nectar and liquid florals, gently cushioned by 6.5 grams of residual sugar, yet the wine never tips into sweetness for its own sake. Blond tobacco, piquant lime peel and a thread of wet stone bring savory contrast and keep the richness honest. The finish surges and holds, with a haunting florality that lingers well past what you expect. Compelling Wachau Riesling that earns its name. Drink now through 2040.
