Emmerich Knoll Riesling Smaragd Kellerberg 2015

Sharper and leaner than Kellerberg typically shows. Lemon pith, white currant, green apple and grapefruit zest come edged with nettle, currant seed and a crack of white pepper, a nose that demands attention rather than invites it. There's an austerity to this wine: high-strung acidity, tight-wound structure and a gripping minerality that feels almost austere. What's absent is the textural weight and the dark, brooding mineral depth that defines Kellerberg at its most expressive. The primary fruit juiciness and surgical focus are undeniable, but this reads more like a wine still finding its footing. Give it time.
