Built from multiple passes through the Scharzhofberg in October, selecting only the most shriveled berries, this wine will spend several years in the Scharzhof cellars before release, likely outside of auction. Apricot conserve, mirabelle jam, candied ginger, and smoky black tea crowd the nose with heady, almost overwhelming generosity. On the palate, the density approaches Eszencia territory: a colossal standoff between piercing acidity and a sugar load that matches it gram for gram, neither yielding to the other. Hazelnut paste and dark honey linger across a finish that simply refuses to end. Magnificent now in glimpses, but genuinely embryonic, this is a wine built for decades.

Egon Müller is the benchmark for Saar Riesling, producing some of the most sought-after and expensive sweet wines in the world from the steep, slate-driven Scharzhofberg above Wiltingen.
