Dark cherry, crushed slate, dried sage and a saline undercurrent, this is Barbaresco in an uncompromising mood. The 2014 Pajè is deeply structured, with firm, iron-grip tannins that aren't going anywhere soon. There's real density of fruit at the core, but it's the mineral austerity that dominates now, chiseling through to a finish of impressive length. Lavender and dried herbs add nuance, hinting at what's buried beneath. Give it time, this needs years in the cellar to open fully. Drink 2028–2042.
