F.X. Pichler Riesling Federspiel Burgstall 2014

The Burgstall site, flat, close to the water, reclaimed by the Pichlers specifically for Federspiel, earns its place with this focused, energetic wine. Sage, arborvitae and resin on the nose give it an herbal distinctiveness before lime and green apple come through cleanly underneath. On the palate it's lean and mouth-filling at once, with bright acidity that stays lively without tipping into sharpness, wet stone and a trace of bitter walnut rounding things out. A fine bead of residual CO2 keeps the finish fresh and invigorating. At 12.2%, it sits slightly fuller than the Urgestein Terrassen cuvée but remains a genuinely light-footed Federspiel.
