F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Klostersatz 2014

Crushed stone and floral lift carry through from the nose all the way to the palate, a signature of F.X. Pichler's Federspiel work in 2014. Rhubarb, tobacco, and a delicate herbal thread fill out the mid-palate, bolstered by generous extract that never feels heavy. The finish is bracingly tart, giving the wine its energy and length. What it doesn't quite match is the Frauenweingarten bottling's sense of focus and pure refreshment, a touch less clarity, a touch less bite. Still, an accomplished Klostersatz with real personality.
