Dark and brooding from the first pour, tar, black cherry, incense, licorice and new leather dominate the nose with an intensity that's atypical for La Serra, which usually shows a more lifted, floral character. The 2008 vintage has pushed this wine into deeper, more muscular territory, and it takes a good stretch of air before those signature rose petal notes surface, ghosting through on the finish. Firm, grippy tannins and serious concentration make this a wine that still needs time, the structure is there, but it isn't giving everything away just yet. Give it at least three to five more years; patient cellaring through 2030 will be well rewarded.
