Podere Il Carnasciale Il Caberlot 2006

Deeply shut in at this stage, the 2006 Caberlot demands patience before it offers anything. With extended airing, sweet menthol, balsam and dark fruit slowly surface, but this is a wine that guards itself closely. The tannins are formidable and grip the entire frame, yet beneath them lies a wine of exceptional equilibrium, with impressive length and a polished finish that hints at what's in store. Aromatic complexity is still forming; come back in several years. Worth noting: commercially released only in magnum, which will make this even more tightly wound than this 750ml sample suggests.
