Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Rosenberg Reserve 2005

Cantaloupe, flint and white pepper on a nose that shows the first warm signs of maturity. Rich and generous across the palate, yet a firm herbal acidity keeps everything honest, lifting the ripe fruit rather than letting it sprawl. Decanted several hours before tasting, the wine had clearly been shut down for some time, but it's beginning to open up, and there's still a grip on the finish that speaks to years left in the bottle. A cool vintage that rewards the patience already shown.
