WineSaint
Sagrantino at its most imposing, and in a three-liter format, the 1999 Paolo Bea has had every advantage. Dried blackberry, crushed violet, iron, tar and smoked meat, with a thread of bitter chocolate running through the core. The tannins are massive but fully integrated after more than two decades, giving the wine a dense, almost ancient authority. Concentration and finesse in rare balance. A monument.
