Thibaud Boudignon

AnjouFrance

Thibaud Boudignon is among the most closely watched names in Anjou, producing precise, age-worthy Savennières and Anjou Blancs from old-vine chenin blanc on schist and volcanic soils.

History

Thibaud Boudignon established his domaine in Anjou in the early 2010s after working in the region and building a clear conviction about what chenin blanc from this corner of the Loire could do. He is part of a generation of producers who returned attention to Anjou as a source of serious dry white wine, at a time when the appellation's reputation lagged well behind its neighbors. His holdings include parcels in Savennières, one of the Loire's most demanding and rewarding appellations for dry chenin, as well as broader Anjou Blanc vineyards that give him room to work across different expressions of the grape. The domaine remains small and producer-run.

Vineyards

Boudignon's Savennières parcels sit on the appellation's characteristic schist and volcanic rock, soils that drain sharply and push vines to depth. Les Vignes Cendrées, Clos de la Hutte, and Clos de Fremine each represent distinct sites within Savennières, and the wines carry recognizable differences in weight and texture that reflect their origins. The Anjou Blanc vineyards draw on similar geology across the broader appellation. Franc de Pied is a notable bottling produced from ungrafted vines, a rarity that points to the age and condition of certain parcels. Farming is conducted organically.

Winemaking

Fermentations are spontaneous, using indigenous yeasts, and the wines spend extended time on their lees before bottling. Boudignon works with a mix of older oak vessels and likely neutral containers; the oak presence in the finished wines is minimal and structural rather than aromatic. The Savennières bottlings in particular are built for the cellar, showing the tight, reductive character typical of young chenin from schist soils. The Anjou Blanc à François(e) sits at a slightly more accessible register while sharing the same approach. Filtration is minimal or absent. The wines across the range reward patience and reward attention.
