Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain Grand Cru 2022

Anomalously high acidity for a Pinot Gris — sharper, remarkably, than the Riesling Roche Calcaire from the same harvest. The nose is restrained, just a whisper of pear, but the palate is where this wine reveals itself: razor-edged, relentlessly precise, almost unrecognizable as the variety. The Rangen terroir dominates completely, its volcanic intensity carving through every layer. Pear resurfaces briefly on the finish, a fleeting reminder of the grape beneath. Bone-dry and bracing — one of nature's genuinely strange and wonderful accidents.
