Pure Cinsault from Swartland, made with 50% whole clusters, 20 to 28 days on skins, and aged in 40-year-old foudres. The nose is precise and inviting, maraschino cherry, blueberry, pressed violet and a faint thread of musk. On the palate, everything is in its right place: medium-bodied, with gossamer tannins, bright acidity and a gentle but present grip that carries through to a long, almost hypnotic finish. The delineation here is stunning. Sadie reportedly said, "The fruit was so great I didn't want to put it into the vat", and you taste exactly why. Cinsault at this level is a rare thing. 13.4% alcohol.
