Emmerich Knoll Riesling Pfaffenberg Selektion 2022

Sourced from across the appellation boundary in Kremstal — paragneiss and amphibolite soils — this bone-dry Selektion falls outside Smaragd classification but loses nothing in ambition. A warm, south-facing site pushes the nose toward ripe peach and orange pith, yet the wine pivots sharply on the palate: juicy and taut, with a plunge into stony, spiced depths that feel almost brooding. There's a darker mineral core here than you might expect from that generous opening — deep rock, a trace of iron, and a vivid, zesty drive that keeps everything in motion. Long and wound tight, yet flush with fruit. A genuinely compelling contrast of warmth and austerity.
