Wieninger Wiener Gemischter Satz Ried Ulm Nussberg 2021

Wieninger has held this monopole since 1992, the limestone Nussberg site where the Wiener Gemischter Satz revival effectively began. Nine varieties planted in 1960, led by Grüner Veltliner, Weissburgunder, Neuburger, Grauburgunder and Welschriesling, with Riesling, Rotgipfler, Zierfandler and Traminer rounding out the blend; vinified in 80% steel and 20% large cask. The nose is quietly expressive, waxed pear, candlewax and a fleeting suggestion of rose petals. What catches you off guard is the acidity: bright and penetrating beneath what feels like a plush, waxy surface, bringing citrus concentration and a thread of orange peel that keeps the wine from ever feeling heavy. Bone-dry, poised and genuinely complex for a field blend this age.
