Moric Blaufränkisch 2021

Sourced partly from the Leitha hills but predominantly from Lutzmannsburg in Mittelburgenland, this 2021 was spontaneously fermented in open vats — and it shows in the wine's wild, unvarnished character. Dark cherry, crushed blackberry and a streak of iron-rich earth on the nose, with dried violet and a faint smoked meat note lurking underneath. On the palate, firm but fine-grained tannins hold everything in place, while fresh acidity keeps the fruit from getting heavy. A wine with genuine depth and a savory, mineral-edged finish. Drink from 2025 through 2034.
