Amélie & Charles Sparr Syrah Amour Interdit 2021

Planted in 2018 on Mambourg Grand Cru limestone, this is Charles Sparr's inaugural Syrah — foot-trodden, 14 days on skins, aged 12 months in older pièce. The nose is immediately appealing: violet, cracked pepper, and a whisper of vanilla. On the palate, varietal character is clear — red cherry, white pepper — but the youth of the vines keeps depth at bay for now. The winemaking is careful and restrained, which bodes well. This one is worth tracking.
