Iron, smoke, and tart cherry on the nose, focused and unadorned. Old vines on Sommerberg's granitic slopes at 350m, and the stony backbone is unmistakable. The wine is lean and precise on the palate, red fruit stripped to its essentials, with a trace of cinnamon and oak that frames rather than dominates. Fine, grippy tannins give it just enough structure to hold together. Bottled straight from barrel without racking, there's a raw directness here that sets it apart. Still taking shape, patience will be rewarded.
