Cabernet Franc leads a five-variety Stellenbosch blend, 30% CF, 28% CS, 21% Malbec, 16% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, aged 24 months in a mix of first, second and third fill barrels. The nose is effortlessly poised: black cherry, boysenberry and raspberry fruit woven through with oak that flatters rather than dominates. On the palate it opens with real intensity, layering red fruit, spice, cracked black pepper and graphite across a frame of considerable structure. What keeps it from feeling heavy is the salinity and finesse that cut through on the finish, genuine Compostella character. Give it three to four years, then drink with confidence. Exceptional.
