Rich blackberry and plum show impressive concentration from the Rocche dell'Olmo and Gramolere sites, but heavy-handed oak treatment overwhelms Barbera's natural brightness. Leather and licorice emerge beneath the dominant wood, while the palate feels weighty and disconnected from the grape's typical energy. The raw material clearly has merit. Fifteen months in 500-liter barrels simply proved too much.
