Bright and expressive from the first pour, this Paarl Pinot from Doug's Vineyard opens with candied red fruits, incense and baking spice, then unfolds with a lifted floral quality given a few minutes in the glass. On the palate it's focused and alive, sappy raspberry, rose pastille and a thread of succulent herb, all underpinned by a core of juicy acidity that keeps things taut. The tannins are gentle but present, and the finish shows real spicy precision and grip, lingering with impressive tenacity.
