Mullineux Syrah 2018

Ninety percent whole bunch and 14 months in a mix of new oak, used barrels, and foudre. Brambly red fruit, white pepper, clove, and a cola note that opens up with air. Lean and grippy on the palate, tightly-knit tannins and a sinewy frame, with threads of licorice and Japanese nori pulling toward a saline, mineral finish. Excellent Swartland Syrah.
