Kühling-Gillot Riesling Niersteiner trocken 2018

An intriguing, layered nose, musky and faintly marine, with dried citrus peel and pressed flowers adding a sacheted, almost perfumed lift. The fruit is sourced largely from Hipping and Pettenthal, though the aromatic character evokes Ölberg in spirit. On the palate, citrus-driven juiciness opens up cleanly, with good polish and a saline, raw-scallop quality that gives the wine real mouthwatering depth. The finish is long and refreshingly sustained. Among all the non-vineyard-designated 2018s from Kühling-Gillot, this is the standout, and remarkably, it surpasses its 2017 counterpart, a rarity in a vintage where 2017 often had the edge.
