Dried herbs and orange zest on the nose, thyme, chamomile, a faint medicinal edge. The palate opens wide, almost plush, with a russet pear bitterness threading through the concentrated core. Remarkable juiciness for a wine with such dried-fruit character; bone-dry but relentlessly salivating. Fifty-year-old vines on marl and white quartzite in the eastern Schoenenbourg deliver real weight here without ever feeling heavy.
