Plum compote, candied violet, vanilla and pipe tobacco open things up, with a warm undercurrent of cinnamon and clove. On the palate, the fruit is generous and plush — blackberry, spiced plum, a touch of dark chocolate — but there's enough freshness underneath to keep it honest. The tannins are youthful and sweetly grained, not yet fully resolved, and the finish stretches long with cherry and a note of licorice trailing off. Drink now if you want the fruit upfront, or hold a few years for everything to settle into place.
