Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Passo del Lume Spento 2017
High-altitude Brunello from what Riccardo Campinoti considers the loftiest vineyard in the appellation at 621 meters, and you can feel that elevation in every sip. Dried herbs, sweet tobacco, and crushed stone on the nose, lifted and faintly exotic, with a spice note threading through the whole thing. Silky across the palate, with wild berry fruit kept honest by bright acidity and a saline kick. Tannins grip toward the finish, which tapers lean and mineral, with a pulse of sour citrus keeping it honest. The 2017 vintage found a pretty balance here, nothing overdone. Drink 2025–2038.
