Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinotage Southern Right 2017

Pinotage with genuine character. Nine months in barrel, 16% new oak, and it shows, the wood is present but supportive rather than dominant. Deep-colored with a nose that opens on red berry fruit, a thread of eucalyptus and a faint herbal lift. On the palate, grippy tannins give it structure and a touch of earthiness anchors the finish, while a persistent peppery note lingers well after the wine is gone. Varietal and honest. Very fine.
