From Ried Ulm, an east-facing plot perched almost directly above the Danube, one of the more distinctive positions among Viennese sites, this Gemischter Satz opens with ripe pear and apple, both marked by a seedy, pit-fruit piquancy that gives the nose real character. At 14.5% alcohol, there's a definite warmth here, and the weight pushes toward bitterness at the edges, a tension that keeps this wine from being entirely comfortable. That said, the complexity beneath those rough edges is genuinely fascinating, with layers that reward time in the glass. The Nussberg terroir asserts itself in the mineral backbone, grounding the fruit and giving the wine more to say than its alcohol might suggest at first.
