Wieninger Grüner Veltliner Preussen 2016

Late-picked from one of Döbling's warmer pockets, the Preussen sits noticeably richer than Wieninger's Nussberg bottling — nearly 14% alcohol and a texture to match. Almond and mirabelle plum lead on the nose, generous and rounded. On the palate, that fullness is real, yet there's enough freshness and drive to keep things from feeling heavy. A pleasing push-pull between creamy weight and a firm, biting edge gives the wine character — something it shares with the Kaasgraben. Not a wine built for the long haul, but satisfying drinking now through 2022 or so.
