Oddero Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2016

Iron, incense, dried roses and a deep undercurrent of smoke and dried herbs, Rocche di Castiglione is unmistakably itself here. Oddero's strip of Monforte-side vines adds serious structural weight: the tannins are dense and tightly-knit, the frame almost austere. There's aromatic lift and depth in equal measure, but this wine is clearly not ready to give everything up. Patience is required. Drink 2028–2042.
