Gorgeous from the first pour. The 2016 Valferana opens with dried rose, candied cherry, tar, anise and orange peel, Gattinara's aromatic breadth on full display. What sets it apart is the sense of total equilibrium: no single element dominates, the wine simply holds together with quiet authority. Medium-full in body, with fine tannins and a finish that lingers long and clean. As good from bottle as it was from barrel.
