Mvemve Raats MR de Compostella 2016

At 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, the highest in the blend's history, the 2016 MR de Compostella leads with a serious, almost brooding nose: dense black fruit threaded through with graphite and a cool mineral edge. On the mouth it loosens slightly, red fruit joining the black, with fine-grained tannins woven through a harmonious, well-knit frame. Pencil lead and dark earth linger on the finish, which holds its line impressively. It doesn't quite match the cut and precision of the 2015, but stands as a thoroughly worthy follow-up.
