Muga Gran Reserva Prado Enea 2016

Thirty-six months in oak and a cool growing season have produced a leaner Prado Enea than the vintage entry suggests — tighter, more contained, but genuinely serious. Dried thyme, sour cherry and dark plum lead the nose, with matchstick reduction, a note of saffron and beeswax underneath. Dried flowers and biscuit add further depth as it opens up. In the mouth it's dry and supple — chalky grip, good acidity, a juicy flow that carries through to a long, layered finish. Those expecting the warm, full-bodied generosity of a riper year may find it trimmer than expected, but on its own terms this is outstanding Rioja. Drink now through 2032.
