Darker and more generous than usual for the Costalina, the 2016 leans into ripe fruit without losing its herbal character. Dried sage, leather, licorice and a touch of tobacco weave through the plum and black cherry, giving the wine more aromatic complexity than its entry-level price suggests. Tannins are soft and the texture pliant, this is Fort Ross-Seaview fruit worn accessibly, with enough depth to reward attention. An ideal first encounter with what Ceritas does.
