Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Am Berg 2016

White pepper, mustard seed and fresh green herbs cut right through on the nose — brisk and nose-wrinkling in the best sense, with a lime-driven acidity that earns its Riesling comparisons. What surprises is the mid-palate: for an entry-level bottling, the texture turns genuinely silken, almost plush, before the finish snaps back with buoyant, herb-laced lift. That contrast between softness and cut is what keeps you coming back to the glass. It's worth noting that a small portion of the fruit here was purchased — organically farmed and harvested by Ott's own crew — though from the 2017 vintage onward, Am Berg is drawn entirely from estate vines. Few intro-level Grüner Veltliners anywhere deliver this kind of consistency.
