Slightly more reserved on the nose than the Schist, though violet and crushed stone lift the blackberry fruit with quiet confidence. On the palate, there's an unexpected generosity early, ripe, pliant, almost immediately approachable. Open it up, and the wine shifts gear entirely: smoky, peppery minerality asserts itself, dark berry and spice flavors coat the palate, and the finish extends with sweet, well-resolved tannins. The granitic character calls Hermitage to mind, that same interplay of spice, smoke, and stony depth. Pure and long.
