Artadi El Carretil 2010

Single-vineyard Tempranillo of serious depth and ambition. Blackberry, cherry liqueur and incense on the nose, with a clean mineral thread running beneath the fruit. Dense and generous across the mid-palate, with dark berry, bitter cherry, cola and licorice layered through a firm, tightly-knit core. The tannins are substantial, well-built rather than polished, and the finish gathers force, leaving boysenberry and smoky mineral notes that hold long after the wine is gone. Still wound tight, the fruit primary and the structure unyielding. Compelling now, but clearly built for a higher ceiling. Give it time.
