Dark and brooding for Rocche di Castiglione, a site that usually leans toward finesse. Black cherry, dried violet, iron earth and a touch of clove, more muscle than this vineyard typically shows in 2008's cool, structured vintage. The tannins are firm and grip the mid-palate, but the acidity holds everything in check and the wine never tips into excess. Not the most delicate expression of this cru, but the balance is sound and the underlying character of the site still comes through. Drink 2018–2030.
