Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Ragnaie V.V. 2008
Darker and more concentrated than the standard Ragnaie bottling, the V.V. draws on old-vine depth without sacrificing freshness. Black cherry, dried plum and exotic spice lead, with licorice, tobacco and a balsamic undercurrent threading through the mid-palate. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, and the structure holds everything in convincing balance. A note of menthol lifts the finish alongside those balsamic nuances, keeping the wine from feeling heavy. This isn't a better wine than the regular bottling — just a different, more muscular reading of Sangiovese, and a compelling one.
Le Ragnaie
→Le Ragnaie is a small Montalcino estate producing single-vineyard Brunellos from the high-altitude northern and southern zones of the appellation, including holdings at Montosoli and the old-vine bottling known as V.V.
