Pieropan Soave Classico La Rocca 2006
100% Garganega, late-harvested and aged in French oak, this 2006 La Rocca pours with an almost viscous richness, ripe white peach, fresh mint, toasted oak and a streak of wet stone. The texture is generous without tipping into excess, and there's a pleasing sweetness on the finish that lingers well past the last sip. Pedigree shows in the detail: nothing is overdone, and the oak sits neatly in service of the fruit rather than dominating it. A year or two in bottle won't hurt, though Pieropan's La Rocca has a track record of aging gracefully, drink it relatively young to catch that fruit at its most vivid.
