Dark, brooding, and unapologetically big — the 2003 Quintarelli Amarone announces itself with overripe black cherry, dried fig, tar, licorice, and a deep vein of dark chocolate. The heat of the vintage is unmistakable, pushing the fruit into near-raisin richness, yet sweet floral and tobacco notes pull it back from excess. Tannins are firm and densely packed, and while the body reads almost medium on first impression, there's a compressed power underneath that needs time to fully surface. Spice and cocoa linger through a long, layered finish. Hold for another decade and revisit.
