Artadi Grandes Anadas 2001

Dark ruby, dense and brooding. Cassis, roasted blackberry, dark chocolate and espresso — the full weight of concentrated Tempranillo from a vintage Artadi rarely deemed worthy of this bottling, having only called on the Grandes Añadas designation in 1994, 1998 and 1999 before 2001. Bright acidity runs through the core, keeping everything honest and preventing the fruit from collapsing under its own mass. Violet, baking spice and a faint thread of tobacco build through the mid-palate, lending the wine a perfume that distinguishes it from Artadi's other releases. Tannins are substantial but ripe, and the finish holds for an impressive stretch. Drink now through 2025.
