La Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva 1989

Brick-tinged and fully evolved, the 890 has arrived at a point of complete harmony. Dried cherry, walnut, cocoa and toasted oak come through on the nose, noticeably more advanced than the 1987 at a similar age. Warm and generous on the palate, with soft, dusty tannins and flavors of tobacco, sweet spice and aged red fruit that have long since settled into one another. No rough edges remain, just a long, plush finish that trails off slowly. Drinking beautifully now.
