History
Wayne and Nancy Hunnicutt moved to Jonive Road in 1995 specifically to plant Pinot Noir, and the vineyard is theirs. Diane Cobb met them at a Sonoma County grape growers' meeting in 2005; the fruit impressed Ross Cobb enough that Cobb Wines began bottling a designate from it the following year and has been the site's only producer since.
The Site
Three acres at roughly 800 feet on a two-lane ridgetop road overlooking the Freestone Valley, ringed by redwood and bay. The vineyard faces southwest, and fog and wind funnel up the valley into it. The soil is Goldridge sandy loam.
Vines and Blocks
Pinot Noir in Dijon clones 115 and 777 across the whole three acres.
The Wines
Cobb's Emmaline Ann Vineyard Pinot Noir is the sole designate from the site, made in the small, high-acid coastal register Cobb built its name on.
