History
DuMOL's winemaker and partner Andy Smith developed Bressay as an estate vineyard, planting it in 2004 and 2005. It is farmed as a monopole and is the later of the label's two estate parcels; the separate DuMOL Estate Vineyard off Occidental Road came first, bought in 2004.
The Site
A plateau west of Highway 116 in the Green Valley district, roughly ten miles from the Pacific at about 300 feet. Every current release is labelled Sonoma Coast despite the site sitting inside the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA, which is a producer's choice rather than an error.
Vines and Blocks
Planted at 3,630 vines per acre on 1.3 by 0.75 metre spacing, far tighter than California norms. The Chardonnay is the Hyde selection of Old Wente; the Pinot Noir is Calera and clone 943. Block 7, a Calera massal selection, feeds DuMOL's Finn Pinot Noir blend rather than the estate bottling.
The Wines
DuMOL is the only producer. Bressay appears as its own designate and also contributes to Finn, which is a blend name rather than a neighbouring vineyard.
