Russian River Valley

Olivet Ranch Vineyard

Ehren Jordan of Failla bought this established Russian River vineyard in 2011 and turned it organic, a valley-floor counterpart to his Fort Ross-Seaview estate and the home of some of the label's most curious bottlings.

History

Jordan acquired the 14 acre site on Olivet Road in 2011, already planted, and converted the farming to organics immediately. It sits beside Olivet Lane, one of the Russian River Valley's founding Pinot Noir vineyards, and shares its varietal DNA.

The Site

The vineyard occupies part of a larger shared ranch block on the Santa Rosa Plain between Piner and Olivet roads, deep sandy loams in the heart of the appellation where fog fills the mornings but afternoons run warmer than the coast.

Vines and Blocks

Pinot Noir from Martini, Swan and Calera selections leads, with Chardonnay alongside and two oddities that mark the ranch: old-style Chenin Blanc and a rare planting of Savagnin, the Jura's great white.

The Wines

Failla's Olivet Ranch Pinot Noir is the label's warm-corridor expression, floral and spice-driven; the Chardonnay joins the estate range, and the Chenin Blanc and Savagnin bottlings are among the few of their kind in Sonoma County.
