History
Alcide Pelletti planted the field in 1927 on the flood plain bench of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, among the Italian family plantings, Frati, Bacigalupi, Saitone, Mancini, that made the corridor an old-vine heartland. Mike and Kendall Officer, whose Carlisle Winery works only with Sonoma vineyards planted between 1888 and 1954, made it their namesake site, and the Historic Vineyard Society certifies it under the Carlisle (Pelletti) name. In 2026 Jessica and P.W. Scoggins bought the vineyard from the Officers as the couple wound down toward retirement.
The Site
Head-trained, spur-pruned vines on St. George rootstock in Huichica loam, on the mostly flat bench northwest of Santa Rosa.
Vines and Blocks
Predominantly Zinfandel with Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Tempranillo, Peloursin and dozens more: a true field blend with forty-three varieties identified to date, picked and fermented together.
The Wines
Carlisle's Carlisle Vineyard Zinfandel carries the old-vine signature, dense bramble fruit and savory depth on century-old roots, with Williams Selyem also drawing from the historic field.
