History
Italian immigrant settlers planted the steep amphitheater around the turn of the twentieth century with Zinfandel and scattered Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grenache and Mourvedre. Perry Beeson farmed the ranch for over four decades until his death in 2005 at ninety, and the property stayed in his family more than eighty years; the Ellison and Kurtzman families own it today. Dry Creek Vineyard has taken the fruit since the mid 1970s, and Bedrock began a long-term lease with its first Beeson Ranch Heritage bottling in 2021.
The Site
Five acres on the southwestern slopes of Dry Creek Valley just up from Madrona Manor, head pruned and dry farmed on red Boomer and Josephine loams flecked with quartz and greenstone.
Vines and Blocks
Ancient-vine Zinfandel with the old field-blend companions interplanted, farmed by Bedrock and North Pacific Vineyard Management.
The Wines
Beeson fruit yields textbook old-vine Dry Creek Zinfandel, bramble, spice and dusty structure, split between Dry Creek Vineyard's long-running designation and Bedrock's Heritage program.
